Some Books I Absolutely Need to Read…

Posted by Jason on December 10, 2008

So I was reading this post about the top book of the year as selected by top Latin-American authors, and I’ve decided that 2666 by Roberto BolaƱo is going on my Christmas list, even if wifey has banned me from bringing any more books into our little condo. From what the other authors wrote about it, it’s going to be a new Latin-American monolith in no time!

Also, I heard this story on NPR about this dude that has dedicated his life to exploring the drainage tunnels under Las Vegas. I knew at once I must read his book. My friends and I spent a whole summer crawling around in the tunnels beneath my wonderful little suburb of Santee, California, and I think this book will bring back some stupid, yet fun memories. Perhaps I’ll read about what I could’ve become if I didn’t get some sense knocked into me. So Beneath the Neon by Matthew O’Brien is also on my list of books that look terribly interesting to me right now.
